ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: SCIENCE FICTION OR REALITY?

When thinking about artificial intelligence (AI), some of us still picture a setting from one of Asimov's novels, while in reality, major industries are already using AI and this tendency is growing. The digitalization of work is of critical importance for the survival and success of businesses and institutions alike.

We recently contributed to the 6th national conference organized by ICT Media under the theme “The modern transformation of IT services: Cloud, managed services, outsourcing”. The participants emphasized the importance of cloud solutions for data keeping and business process in the era of growing Internet of things (IoT).

OnboardCRM’s Chief Digital Evolution Officer, Levent Korkmaz delivered a thought-provoking presentation on the need for digital self-transformation and the future of the business organization - “Digital Transformation Roadmap: Purpose, Partnership, Process, Platform, but People first”. His vision is that in the foreseeable future businesses will move away from applications and we will rely on cloud-based platforms supported by highly integrated Artificial Intelligence.

While other participants emphasized on the business and cloud infrastructures, in the first part of his presentation, Levent introduced the concept of Homo Digitalis as our next step in the evolution ladder and commented: 

Technology is accelerating human evolution: because of sharing and conversations, the information revolution has disrupted consumerism and globalization.

Levent also introduced Homo Artificialis as an inevitable next phase in our business and human evolution. Artificial intelligence is becoming an inevitable part of our daily lives, but firstly we will adopt it as a business tool. AI started to be integrated into data analysis and other business tools and is growing fast. Companies such as IBM, Google and Amazon are some of the well-known examples.

Salesforce.com recently introduced Einstein, its own AI system, and integrated it into the existing CRM platform and all cloud variations. Einstein is people orientated and helps users to discover insights, predict outcomes, recommend best next steps and automate tasks for improved performance.

However AI systems are used and managed by people - our colleagues, partners and clients - and we all need to keep up with the fast pace growth and develop related technical skills. As Homo Economicus we must evolve firstly into Homo Digitalis before the universal arrival  and implementation of Homo Artificialis.

Everything starts with a simple truth - each cloud has to be managed by someone. So every business has two choices - to do so internally or to seek a trusted partner to manage all or most of its clouds.
